Are Sphynx truly hairless?
No, like humans, Sphynx have a
fine down covering their skin. This down is heavier on the ears and above
the nose.
Do Sphynx get cold?
Chances are, if you are
comfortable so are they but because of their "hairlessness" they are
strictly an indoor cat. Taking your Sphynx to the vet in the winter, for
example, will require a warmed up vehicle and some blankets inside the cat
carrier. Letting them out in the summer can cause sunburn.
Does this breed require special
care?
Yes, in addition to nail
trimming, they will need a bath and frequent ear cleaning. With this breed
there is not enough hair to absorb the normal oil secretions from the skin
making bathing a must. We recommend bathing your Sphynx 1 -2 times per
month.
I am allergic to cats. Will this
breed be right for me?
It is really hard to say;
everyone reacts differently. Personally, I am allergic to cats but this
breed does not cause an allergic reaction in me. I highly suggest that you
take a "snuggle test" to be sure before purchasing a Sphynx. There is no
such thing as a hypoallergenic cat. If you are in the area, please call and
make an appointment to visit to check your personal reaction.
What can you tell me about their
personality?
To know one is to love one.
Sphynx are human seeking cats. By this I mean, they love to interact with
humans by "talking," playing and always wanting to be by your side. Chances
are, they will even sleep with you, snuggling down under the blankets,
content and happy. If you are looking for a cat that requires little
attention, this breed is not for you.
What does this type of cat feel
like?
To the touch, this cat feels
similar to a warm peach or soft suede.
